Frances Drayson
born 1986 in London, lives and works in London
Frances Drayson's multifaceted practice spans drawing, sculpture, sound design, text and installation. Drayson explores possibilities of expression within rigid systemic frameworks through the use of ciphers and analogy. References to Medieval churches, animal crypsis, industrial farming and fascist architecture weave through works, evoking overlapping sites of production, commune, evasion and control. Material is worked towards distortion: sounds, faces or gestures are subjected to escalating stages of repetition, replication and modification.
